Vehicles in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior official stated the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
