An individual who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She said Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the police a second time.
She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
